Study Finds Oracle Patches Go Unapplied

Tuesday January 22, 2008
A recent study by Sentrigo, a database security firm, revealed that most Oracle DBAs don't apply Oracle Critical Patch Updates, according an article in InformationWeek this week.

The survey reached 305 Oracle DBAs and asked them two questions: had they applied either of the two most recent CPUs and had they ever applied a CPU to their Oracle databases. I found the results astonishing, given the recent attention given to database security:
  • Only 10% of administrators had applied one of the two most recent patches
  • More than two-thirds (67.5%) had never applied an Oracle CPU
What are your thoughts on this study? Have you applied CPUs to your database? Join the discussion in our forum.
