Pivot tables offer an inexpensive and easy solution to those who need some of the power of a database within the familiar environment of a spreadsheet package. Both Microsoft Excel and Google Docs offer pivot tables as part of their core functionality. Using pivot tables, you can easily summarize large datasets, gathering statistics about groupings and subgroupings that you dynamically create using a drag-and-drop interface.
