Access 2000 Readiness Update

Microsoft Corporation recently announced the release of a readiness upgrade for Access 2000. This package contains important updates and bug fixes for users who utilize Access in conjunction with SQL Server databases. Specifically, the following three issues are addressed:
  • Incompatibility issues between Access 2000 Projects and SQL Server 2000. Several issues exist for users of certain Access 2000 releases that affect compatibility with SQL Server 2000. This readiness upgrade corrects a number of these deficiencies.
  • Severe incompatibility problems for Visual Studio 6.0 developers. Due to the large time lag between the release of Visual Studio 6.0 and SQL Server 2000, VS 6.0 does not support a number of SQL Server features. This results in severe compatibility issues which are corrected by this upgrade.
  • Overflow error correction when upsizing database from Access 2000 to SQL Server 2000. Users attempting to upgrade an Access database to a SQL Server database may encounter an overflow error message when attempting to perform the transition. This upgrade corrects these issues.

In summary, this upgrade is recommended for all Access 2000 users who either interface with or develop software for SQL Server 2000 databases. To download the readiness upgrade, visit Microsoft's download site.
