Access 2000 for Windows: Visual QuickStart Guide offers a great introduction to Microsoft Access for beginners who prefer to learn by example rather than reading user manuals.  It provides over 110 illustrated examples of tasks ranging from the basics of navigating Microsoft Access to more advanced topics like working with Pivot Tables.  

This book is definitely not a comprehensive reference work for Access users -- that's not its intent.  Rather, it's a great starting point for those of us who want to quickly jump in and get our hands dirty.  If you're the type of person who tosses aside the manual and attempts to put the Christmas presents together on your own, this book is for you.
