Access Hacks
The Bottom Line
If you're an experienced Access user, there's no doubt you'll find something useful in this book. It's packed full of so many useful tips and techniques that there's guaranteed to be something you don't already know! However, it's not intended to serve the novice Access user, so if you're new to the world of Access, start with a different book and work your way up to this one.

Guide Review - Access Hacks: Tips and Tools for Wrangling Your Data
This book is, hands down, one of my favorite books on Microsoft Access. It's packed solid with 100 different hacks designed to give advanced Access users a quick reference for implementing time-saving functions.

The book itself is divided into ten sections. Here's a listing of these major sections and an example hack from each:
  • Part 1: Core Access (Example: Transfer Data Between Versions of Access)
  • Part 2: Tables (Example: Hide Sensitive Information)
  • Part 3: Entry and Navigation (Example: Use Custom Controls on Your Forms)
  • Part 4: Presentation (Example: Create Conditional Subtotals)
  • Part 5: Queries and SQL (Example: Sort Any Arbitrary String of Characters)
  • Part 6: Multiuser Issues (Example: Test for Duplication)
  • Part 7: External Programs and Data (Example: Export XML Data Sanely)
  • Part 8: Programming (Example: Shrink Your Code with Optional Arguments)
  • Part 9: Third-Party Applications (Example: Load Your Database with Test Data)
  • Part 10: The Internet (Example: Download Files Using the Web Browser Control)
