If you're preparing to take the 70-229 "Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition" exam on the path to earning your MCDBA credential, you'd be well advised to pick up at least one exam training guide. In this feature, we'll take a look at the top guides to help you prepare for the big test. If you need extra help preparing for the exam, I recommend the
Transcender practice tests. I used these simulators to prepare for my MCDBA exams and found them extremely realistic with questions similar to those found on the actual exam.
This title from the popular Que Publishing (formerly New Riders) line of certification prep books offers over 800 pages packed with examples, definitions and sample test questions. It also includes a CD-ROM containing exam preparation software.
This certification training guide from Sybex offers detailed, example-rich explanations of database design concepts in the context of SQL Server 2000. It also includes a large number of practice questions and a CD-ROM containing questions not included in the print book.
This book offers a great review of SQL Server 2000 database design topics, but is a little lacking in some of its explanations. This book will help you pass the test if you're already an experienced DBA but you're better off with one of the two books above if you're just getting started.
This study guide from Microsoft Press doesn't really hit the mark. It's too shallow to be a detailed reference for the exam and it's not clear enough to be a good reference for newbies. There are also several apparent mistakes in the practice test questions.
This Microsoft Press publication also fails to find a real target audience. It's far too advanced for the new SQL Server designer and doesn't contain concrete information for the experienced developer seeking a reference book.
